The time of the year

Recognise the love!! Sarang hae!

Now, it seems like a lot of people have got the flu bug. I was down with that from Monday and til today I still have my nasally, sexy voice. I really didn't want to collapse but golly on Tuesday night, it was fall into bed and sleep from 9 til the next morning 6am. I think we are all suffering from lack of sleep and improper food.

Today, as everyone knows is V day. All couples are lovey dovey and all singletons are sniffing at the idea of V day. "Dang expensive la" are the words to say to cover our envy. LOL I know I am gonna be bashed for this sentence.

Anyhow, I feel that as the years go by, the effect of V day has lessened. Sure, it would be romantic and wonderful if someone had asked you out today but singletons can also enjoy this day. Feel the romance in the air and then make it your resolution to have a V next year!

I look around now and think that teenagers are really good with romantic ideas. Speaking with my married colleagues, they were like 'Sure, out for dinner tonight' and the essence of romance seems to be gone. Wining and dining are now done on a subdued scale. Perhaps it is due to the fact that the little ones are waiting at home. One colleague said that the whole family was going out to eat tonight cos no one would be looking after the kiddies.

For myself, I will focus on the positive and affirm that yes! romance is still alive. Without romance, what is the purpose of love. It's like cupid without his arrow.

So, To All Singletons out there, there is someone for everyone. You will surely find your bondmate one day!

Back to business

I would like to start with my apologies to Miss K for being unable to attend her open house. Mian hae! I was doing my duty at my grandma's and my great gran ma. My great gran ma is already in her 90s so everyone had to be there.

What did I do? At night, I was drafted to 'dry swimming' by my aunts. It was a hilarious time as all the uncensored stuff came out and my aunts and uncles can be quite naughty!

It was back to work today (Didn't consider Saturday as work cos my kids went off to pray at 10)

So many things to do and so little time. Found out that there would be a talk from the Protocol this afternoon but I had to attend another meeting elsewhere.

Miss K! The place we visited burned down!!

Fire ravages South Korea landmark
Namdaemun gate burns, 10 February 2008
More than 100 firefighters battled against the blaze in vain
A 14th Century gate in the South Korean capital, Seoul, has been partly destroyed by fire in a what police believe may have been an arson attack.

Namdaemun, or the Great South Gate, was considered to be the country's greatest national treasure.

More than 100 firefighters fought the blaze, which broke out late on Sunday, but the wooden superstructure collapsed, leaving only the stone base.

Two years ago it was re-opened to the public for the first time since 1907.

President-elect Lee Myung-bak visited the site on Monday, and said simply: "People's hearts will ache."

'Heartbreaking'

Officially called Sungnyemun or Gate of Exalted Ceremonies, the gate had served as the main entrance to the city when Seoul became Korea's capital more than 600 years ago.

"It is heartbreaking," said Kim Duk-Il, 40, a visitor from the southern city of Daegu, as the national icon was reduced to ashes.

By morning, only the stone base was left

"It remained okay even during the Korean War," Mr Kim told the AFP news agency, wiping away tears. "Our pride has fallen down."

First constructed in 1398, rebuilt in 1447 and renovated several times since, Namdaemun was the oldest wooden structure in Seoul.

The two-storey wooden structure had been given the status of "National Treasure number one" in 1962.

Initial estimates say the gate will take three years to restore, at a cost of $21m.
